About Thomas Akers
Dr. Tom Akers, OD, attended West Virginia University Institute of Technology, where he was a Dean's List scholar, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Biology. Following his junior year, he was accepted into optometry school at Illinois College of Optometry. While in Chicago, he completed an externship at the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind where he worked with the severely visually impaired. Dr. Akers graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree in May of 1985.
Dr. Akers joined eyecarecenter on Sunset Avenue in October 1985. He is married with 2 adult children. Dr. Akers enjoys traveling with his family, photography and golf.
